Hello, my name is Alexis Okeowo. I wrote a book called A MOONLESS, STARLESS SKY: Ordinary Women and Men Fighting Extremism in Africa, which won the 2018 PEN Open Book Award. I'm a staff writer at The New Yorker and am writing for television.
I've given talks at conferences and universities, and am available for speaking engagements on extremism, conflict reporting, journalism, and other related issues. I've also received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, Russell Sage Foundation, International Women’s Media Foundation, New America, and Alicia Patterson Foundation. I used to live in Uganda, Mexico, and Nigeria. I now split my time between Brooklyn and Alabama.
