Hello, my name is Alexis Okeowo. I wrote a book called A MOONLESS, STARLESS SKY: Ordinary Women and Men Fighting Extremism in Africa, which won the 2018 PEN Open Book Award. I'm a Visiting Journalist at the Russell Sage Foundation and am writing for television.
I've given talks at conferences and universities, and am available for speaking engagements on extremism, conflict reporting, journalism, and other related issues. I've also received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, New America, and the Alicia Patterson Foundation. I used to live in Uganda, Mexico, and Nigeria. I now split my time between Brooklyn and Alabama.
